ALife is an OS X Version of Conway's classic cellular automata simulation. Each Life window provides a grid of squares which can be populated by objects in a particular "generation." From generation to generation, a set of rules describing the relationships between the state of each square and those of its neighbors determines what its state will be in the next generation. Thus the matrix evolves across generations, appearing to grow and recede, although many patterns will eventually reach an unchanging state.

ALife provides a number of useful features. The generation value is listed in the window, and the speed at which the simulation moves from generation. The program also provides a number of interesting starting configurations, and allows the user to save or copy the state of the matrix at any time, or to return to the beginning configuration.
